Royal Surrey County Hospital Charity recently received a grant from the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation, thanks to support from local financial adviser, Angelo Rana.

The £2,500 donation will support the hospital’s Teenage and Young Adult Cancer service (TYAC), which provides psychosocial support, peer support and entry into clinical trials, as well as ensuring young people are treated in an age-appropriate and comfortable setting.

Adam Golder benefited from TYAC's support when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer back in 2015. He said:

“That sense of community was really special to me: I’ve made some great friends. We’ve all had different experiences but we share a common ground. The meet ups give an opportunity to talk as much or as little about cancer – sometimes it’s a good distraction; other times it helps to know there’s someone to talk to who’s gone through something similar.”

With the charity’s support, the service offers a programme of activities, including activity weekends and social outings. As well as providing a distraction from the treatment, these social events give people an opportunity to meet other young people going through similar experiences.

Angelo Rana from CWS Advisers, a Partner at St. James’s Place, supported the grant application. He said:

“I’m really excited about my newly formed partnership with Royal Surrey County Hospital Charity, which is in my locality of Guildford. At St. James’s Place (SJP), most partners and employees contribute on a regular basis to the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation. These contributions are matched on a pound for pound basis by SJP. Collectively, we raise approximately £10million every year, and over time, we have been pleased to donate around £70million to charitable causes.”

He continued: “I am delighted to present this £2,500 contribution to TYAC, which will help them run some outreach activities for patients. Next spring, I will be holding a launch event for my practice – CWS Advisers – in partnership with Royal Surrey County Hospital Charity, to raise more funds for this very worthy cause.”
