Our Medical and Older People’s Care Fund supports adults and older people cared for by our amazing staff on Eashing, Elstead, Albury, Millbridge, Hindhead, Wisley and Guildford wards.

The teams on these wards support a range of conditions, including respiratory, stroke, dementia, frailty, gastroenterology and neurological rehabilitation.

By donating to our Medical and Older People’s Care Fund, you are helping to ensure adults and older people receive world class care in a comfortable and welcoming setting.

Your donation could help:

  • Fund state-of-the-art equipment and technology
  • Enhance the experience of our patients by funding comfortable and welcoming spaces
  • Support staff wellbeing so our amazing NHS staff can provide extraordinary care
  • Invest in research, training and education
The wall art in our Older People's Unit, which was funded by Royal Surrey Charity, has already made such a difference. Yesterday, two of our patients with dementia were extremely anxious but after seeing the art, they became much more settled. The garden scene became a talking point with staff and an opportunity to reminisce: thank you.

The difference you make

Thanks to your support, Royal Surrey Charity has funded a ‘Frailty Academy’, which provides a framework of training and education so that staff working with older patients are able to better understand, identify and assess frailty – a term used in medicine to identify older people who are more vulnerable to sudden health changes. The service aims to prevent the risk of adverse outcomes associated with frailty, such as falls, disability, admission to hospital, or the need for long-term care.

As well as staff at the Royal Surrey benefitting, training has also been offered to care homes and has been adopted by the Primary Care Network and South East Coast Ambulance Service.

Your support has also helped fund:

  • Vanity trolleys to allow patients to be pampered.
  • A quiet room on the ward to allow patients to have time away from the ward and a safe place to relax.
  • Dementia-friendly wall art to make the wards less clinical and more welcoming.
  • Communication devices (iPads) for patients
  • Beds for guests
  • Making ward staff rooms more comfortable
  • Multi-disciplinary Stroke training for staff

There’s more we can do, but we need your help.
