The difference you make

Thanks to your support, Royal Surrey Charity funded two birthing couches for our maternity suite, which can be moved into the most comfortable position for mums-to-be during labour.

The couches, which aid a more active labour, also make it easier for partners to be much more involved during and following birth. After birth, the couch can be converted into a double bed to provide a relaxing space where parents can bond with their new arrivals.

Sally Stainer from Royal Surrey’s Birth Centre Team, told us:

The birthing couch has made such a big difference to all the mums who’ve used it – they’ve said how wonderfully comfy it is and what a big difference it’s made being able to cuddle their babies in a more relaxing environment.

More recently, donations have funded a counselling room for families who have experienced the loss of a baby during pregnancy or after they are born. This new less clinical, comfortable space means bereaved parents can be taken directly to the room for their follow up appointments, and no longer have to wait in a communal area shared with antenatal services, often alongside heavily pregnant women – which families found traumatic and upsetting.

Your support has also helped fund:

  • Artwork to display on the maternity suite to make it less clinical
  • Equipment to support screening for jaundice in babies in the community
  • Enhancements to the bereavement suite, for families whose babies are born sleeping.

There’s more we can do, but we need your help.
