The local community enjoyed a night of musical magic as the Royal Surrey Choir celebrated its 10th anniversary with a sold-out ABBA concert in February. The event, held in aid of Royal Surrey Charity's 30th anniversary, saw the choir belt out iconic hits like ‘Voulez Vous,’ ‘Waterloo,’ and ‘Thank You for the Music,’ to a captivated audience at Emmanuel Church in Guildford.

The evening, a ‘one night only’ special, was an ABBA-solutely brilliant success, raising an incredible £5,507. The impressive total raised was thanks to ticket sales, a raffle, donations and proceeds from the bar.

The award-winning choir delivered a memorable show, marking a decade of musical contribution to the community. Mari Maisey (pictured), one of the choir’s founding members, said:

I joined Royal Surrey Choir 10 years ago and I feel privileged to be a part of it – it feels like we’re all one big choir family. I find singing so uplifting and fun and something I’ve always enjoyed, and I also love the positive experience it creates for others.

It was a wonderful atmosphere on the night and so lovely to celebrate 10 years of the choir, and 30 years of Royal Surrey Charity,” she added. “Having worked at the Royal Surrey for 25 years, I see first-hand the impact of the charity’s work on patients and staff, and so we are thrilled to have raised such an amazing amount for the charity.

The money raised will help fund extraordinary care at the hospitals we support, including the Royal Surrey, our Cancer Centre and community hospitals in Mildford, Haslemere and Cranleigh.

We are deeply grateful for Royal Surrey Choir’s ongoing support and for the fantastic amount raised which will make a big difference to the support we can offer patients and our amazing NHS staff. Thank you to everyone who came along and enjoyed the evening. Thanks also to Martin Bamford for the stunning photos from the evening and for donating his services for the event.

Royal Surrey Choir will be back in July with another concert in aid of Royal Surrey Charity – watch this space!
