News St Luke’s Warriors raise over £17,000 for cancer care A remarkable team of fundraisers, led by cancer survivor Gavin Lunn, has raised more than £17,000 for Royal Surrey Charity after completing an incredible 100-mile trek along the South Downs Way. The group of 20, who named themselves ‘St Luke’s Warriors’, took on the challenge over four days, walking the equivalent of a marathon a day to support the Royal Surrey Cancer Centre, where Gavin received life-saving treatment. Gavin was diagnosed with head and neck cancer in November 2024 and underwent an intensive course of radiotherapy and chemotherapy earlier this year. Following successful treatment, he was determined to give something back and set himself a goal to regain his strength. Gavin said: “I wanted to give back to the cancer centre for all they have done for me and so many others. I also needed a goal – something to aim for to get me strong again. There was a lot of emotion at the finish, and I’m already thinking about what I can do next to raise more money – possibly the North Downs! “I’m absolutely overjoyed with all the love and support we have received – it’s amazing. Thank you to everybody who helped me in my journey at the Royal Surrey Cancer Centre. I hope I’ve made you proud, and I will continue to do what I do.” Huge well done to Gavin, Louise and every member of the St Luke’s Warriors team for the amazing fundraising. Your support will make a huge difference to our patients. Feeling inspired?
