Royal Surrey Charity is delighted to announce the heartwarming success of our Pledge a Present appeal. You’ve helped raise a brilliant £22,972 this Christmas.

We wanted to share our heartfelt gratitude to all our supporters and community members who thought of our patients and came together to spread joy and make a difference to patients spending Christmas in hospital, away from their loved ones. Every patient at the Royal Surrey and our community hospitals in Haslemere and Milford received a gift to help brighten their day.

In the week before Christmas, 600 gift bags were delivered to 19 wards and departments at Royal Surrey, as well as to our hospitals and patients in the community at Haslemere and Milford. A huge thanks to the HR team at Royal Surrey for helping us deliver the gifts to each ward, which were handed out to patients by the NHS staff working on Christmas day.

Each gift bag contained items that would bring ease to our patients during their stay in hospital. They contained something to wear, such as a hat, gloves or a sock; something to do, such as puzzle books; toiletries, such as hand cream, lip balm, shower gel or wipes; some wrapped sweets and a Christmas cracker.

These gifts brought a lot of joy to our patients. Anna Mae, Junior Sister in Eashing Ward, who was working on Christmas day, witnessed this first-hand. She told us:

“It was heartwarming to see our patients’ smiles when they received your thoughtful gifts. They surely brought warmth and joy, especially in these challenging times in their lives. Thank you, from the depths of our hearts to everyone who embraced the true spirit of giving during Christmas: you made a world of difference to our patients this holiday season.”

Diane, 80, spent two weeks in hospital over the Christmas period. She said:

I want to thank you for the Christmas gifts given to me whilst being a patient on Bramshott Ward. It certainly did ‘brighten my day’ and such thoughtful and useful gifts.

As we reflect on the success of our appeal, we extend our deepest thanks to all businesses, community groups, community members, staff and patients who played a part in bringing smiles to our patients this Christmas.

Our Pledge a Present appeal extends beyond Christmas. Any amount raised over and above what is needed for the gifts supports patients and staff in our hospital all year round.
