News Creating a calmer space for patients receiving radiotherapy Royal Surrey Charity has funded two new Sky Inside screens at our satellite centre in Redhill, thanks to your support and a donation from KatCanDo. These screens will help create a more calming and welcoming environment for patients undergoing treatment. The Sky Inside system is a large, high-definition digital screen that recreates natural scenes such as blue skies, clouds and peaceful landscapes. Designed to “bring the outside in”, the technology mimics real daylight and has been shown to help reduce stress and anxiety in clinical settings. Patients can even choose the scene that helps them feel most relaxed and comfortable. Installed in the treatment bunker at the Trust’s radiotherapy Redhill site, these units are already making a positive difference for the many patients who visit the centre each day. Around 1,000 patients a year attend the Redhill site for treatment, often over several weeks, and thanks to you, we are creating a calm and supportive environment for them to receive care. Caroline Chaston, Radiotherapy Business Manager at Royal Surrey, said: “Coming into the hospital for treatment can be an anxious experience for many of our patients. The Sky Inside screens help create a more calming and reassuring environment from the moment they arrive. Being able to offer something that reduces stress and supports wellbeing, even in a small way, can make a real difference to a patient’s overall experience.” This was made possible thanks to the funding from KatCanDo and Royal Surrey Charity’s Radiotherapy Cancer Care Fund.
