Royal Surrey Charity is pleased to share that patients with learning disabilities and autism in the Emergency Department at Royal Surrey are now benefiting from activity packs to improve their experience, thanks to SC Johnson.

Visiting the Emergency Department can be overwhelming, particularly for patients who may be sensitive to noise, bright lights and unfamiliar surroundings. Thanks to the generous support from SC Johnson, sensory activity bags are now available to provide comfort and reassurance from the moment patients arrive at Royal Surrey.

Each bag contains carefully selected items to help reduce anxiety and support communication. Ear defenders help minimise noise, tactile items provide sensory comfort, and activity books such as colouring and puzzles offer a calming distraction. Simple communication aids also enable patients to express how they feel, helping staff and carers better understand their needs.

These sensory bags are already making a positive difference by helping patients feel calmer, more supported and better able to engage with care. Huge thank you to SC Johnson for thinking of our patients and for creating a calmer environment at the Emergency Department at Royal Surrey.
