News Thank you for bringing ‘happiness’ to our patients Thanks to the kind donation from EA Games, Royal Surrey Charity has funded a new ‘Happiness Machine’ to support some of our most vulnerable patients. This is a lightweight, portable projector that uses interactive and sensory light technology to engage patients who may have dementia, delirium, learning difficulties, mental health issues, or who are bed bound. It offers a range of fun and calming activities, from popping bubbles and brushing leaves, to playing tennis and colouring – helping to reduce agitation and anxiety during hospital stays. Grace Amoo, Lead Nurse for the Enhanced Care Team at Royal Surrey, said: “My team looks after patients needing closer supervision and one-to-one care while they’re in our Trust, and the Happiness Machine helps us support our patients throughout their journey in the hospital. “We build up a particular relationship with patients and get them engaged in activities to calm them, occupy their time or de-escalate stressful situations. The machine gives us a practical and fun tool for helping patients across a range of ages and abilities, and can make all the difference when patients are feeling frustrated and impatient.” Thank you to EA Games for making this possible.
