Thanks to your support, Royal Surrey Charity has funded a ‘Thera trainer’ to support patients recovering from surgery on our inpatient surgical wards. This compact and portable mini exercise bike is already making a big impact, offering patients a safe, effective, and engaging way to begin or continue their rehabilitation journey.

The Thera trainer can be used for both upper and lower limb exercises, making it suitable for a wide range of patients. It helps improve strength, exercise tolerance and overall physical wellbeing, and has quickly become a valued tool for the physiotherapy team at Royal Surrey.

Fay, a patient who has used the Thera trainer for her recovery, said:

It has massively helped. I can’t walk at the moment, but using it means I can still keep up with my rehab and work on building my strength.

Because it is compact and easy to move between bays and side rooms, the Thera trainer is now used regularly on the surgical wards at Royal Surrey – multiple times a day. Its adaptability allows our staff to tailor physiotherapy sessions to each patient’s needs. This encourages patients to take an active role in their recovery, which subsequently reduces their hospital stay.

Ciaran Lynch, Physiotherapy Technical Instructor at Royal Surrey, told us:

Patients often feel more involved in their own recovery when using the Thera trainer, as they can see and feel their progress. The ability to offer an engaging, individualised session with minimal setup also helps the physiotherapy team reach more patients daily, enhancing our service delivery across the wards.

Your support funds projects like these.

“Thank you”, said Fay, “It’s a great way for me to keep going with my rehab. The NHS needs all the support it can get right now, and funding equipment like the Thera trainer really makes a difference for me and other patients on the ward.”

Thank you for supporting our patients at Royal Surrey.
