At Royal Surrey Charity, our volunteers are the heart of everything we do. From running tabletop sales in the hospital to staffing community events, their dedication raises vital funds to support patients and our hardworking NHS staff.

This Volunteers’ Week, we want to shout about one of our star volunteers, Wendy (pictured above). She has been volunteering with Royal Surrey Charity for two years now and runs our tabletop sales.

She told us:
“I started volunteering because I was having treatment here. In fact, I have had many treatments here. Once, when I was walking out of the hospital, I passed through the sale in the main hall and thought: 'That looks interesting!' I asked if the charity wanted volunteers, and lo and behold, I was behind the counter the following week.

“My treatment here at Royal Surrey has been second to none. I could stand on the top of the Guildford High Street and sing their praises, and I find that our customers at the table top sales are feeling much the same.”

Wendy, 76, loves interacting with people visiting the hospital and tells us that everybody is in awe of the care provided by Royal Surrey staff.

“Volunteering is my way of giving back,” Wendy says. “We don’t live our lives for ourselves but for others. If you can help your local NHS hospital, I can’t think of a more worthy cause.”

Over the past 14 months, our tabletop sales – run by volunteers like Wendy – have raised more than £26,000 to support our patients and staff.

Whether you can spare an hour or a day, you can make a difference. From managing our charity stalls and organising bake sales to providing administrative support or sharing a special skill, such as knitting or baking, your time will directly support patients and staff across our hospitals.

To acknowledge all the amazing volunteers across the Trust, we are proud to have funded gift hampers for a volunteers’ draw, thanks to your support. Thank you to Wendy and all our volunteers for your unwavering support. Happy Volunteers’ Week!
