Thanks to your generosity, Royal Surrey’s Breast Unit is now offering contrast enhanced mammography (CEM) – an advanced imaging technique that’s already transforming breast cancer diagnosis and care.

With your support, the team upgraded one of its mammography machines with specialist software and equipment, producing clearer, more detailed images that help detect and stage breast cancer with greater accuracy.

CEM provides a faster, more comfortable alternative to MRI scans, while offering more detail than standard mammograms. For women recently diagnosed with breast cancer, it can reveal additional areas of disease and guide surgery or treatment plans with greater confidence.

Royal Surrey is also among the first hospitals in the UK licensed to perform CEM-guided biopsies, now carried out locally rather than in London – helping reduce delays and anxiety for patients.

“We’re already seeing the benefits for patients,” says Aneet Sian, Lead Breast Radiologist at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust. “The improved image quality is helping us detect additional disease earlier and plan treatment more effectively. It’s a significant step forward for the service.”

This £77,000 investment, made possible by Royal Surrey Charity supporters, includes an incredible contribution of over £18,000 from Guildford Golf Club.
