As the fourth largest cancer centre in the UK, Royal Surrey provides exceptional cancer care to a population of up to 3 million. Our Cancer Centre Fund supports people living with cancer, who are treated at our Cancer Centre in Guildford (formerly St Luke's, including Onslow Ward and Chilworth Day Unit).

The difference you make

Thanks to your amazing support, over the years we have provided life-saving equipment and redeveloped wards and departments to make them more welcoming and comfortable for those who need our care.

Royal Surrey Charity recently funded a refurbishment of the chemotherapy treatment unit (Chilworth). The unit treats around 500 patients a week, some of whom spend up to eight hours a day receiving their treatment.

Putting patients’ wellbeing at the heart of the design was a top priority for staff, who listened to feedback and came up with some creative ways to make the unit more welcoming and less clinical. Chilworth unit’s makeover includes beautiful flower murals in each of the five bays and the conversion of an old nurses’ station into a well-stocked self-service refreshments area, where patients can help themselves to hot and cold drinks and snacks.

More recently, the charity has agreed funding for a state-of-the-art development to take place over the next two years at St Luke’s, which will double the amount of clinical space to support the increasing demand for its cancer services. The enhanced design will also create welcoming, patient-focused spaces with more facilities and easy access between waiting areas, clinical rooms and patient services.

Your support has also helped fund:

  • Cold cap machines to help prevent hair loss for those receiving chemotherapy – including on our mobile units, so patients can benefit closer to home.
  • Comfortable chemotherapy chairs
  • Refreshments for patients undergoing treatment
  • Patient trolley for Chilworth Day Unit
  • A large array of training and education opportunities for staff

There’s more we can do, but we need your help.
