Enter the ballot > About the event The world-famous London Marathon route has remained largely unchanged since the inaugural race in 1981 and encompasses many of the capital’s most mesmerising landmarks, old and new. The start of your 26.2-mile challenge begins near Blackheath in Greenwich. Greenwich became the centre of world time in 1884, when the Meridian Line in Greenwich Park was chosen as the world clock’s neutral point from which all time zones are measured from. More than a century later, the world watches ever year as thousands of runners begin their race against the clock from the centre of the Earth. Continuing past the Cutty Sark, The Shard, Tower Bridge and many more you will continue to race past some of the most iconic landmarks in the capital with your last mile running under the shadow of Big Ben to finally conclude your race within sight of Buckingham Palace along The Mall. Why run for us? Run for #TeamRoyalSurrey and help transform care for patients treated at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust. Patients like Adam, who was diagnosed with cancer at just 23 years old. Adam benefited from peer support groups run by Royal Surrey County Hospital’s Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Service (TYAC), which the charity funds. “You always have that fear and anxiety that [the cancer] might return. And that’s why the service is so incredible – it’s invaluable to have someone to talk to and someone who understands.” Adam was treated at Royal Surrey HospitalWe can't do it without you.
